The Miracle called STEM Education

The world is becoming progressively complex and competitive; the definition of success has shifted from what one knows to what one can do with the knowledge. It is more important than ever, to equip the next generation with the set of skills that will make them formidable problem-solvers. STEM education, the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, has emerged as one among the most preferred curriculum designs to integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into secondary school education. It enables students to acquire the critical skills necessary for analysing and finding the answers that this world demands from them. The most pressing challenges of today and tomorrow call for innovators, researchers, and leaders who will find answers and find them soon. The world believes that these answers lie with STEM.

Today, STEM education is often perceived as a difficult and, quite tragically, a boring choice. This is far from the truth. STEM offers some of the most practical, engaging education for our youth. Few of the most significant benefits of the STEM education are:

  • Enables students to transform ideas into tangible results.
  • Fosters creativity and innovation.
  • Nurtures and improves critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Boosts confidence and self-reliance.
  • Opens doors to multiple opportunities during higher education.
  • Chances of finding a dream job are greater, considering the rate at which the STEM job industry is growing.

How is STEM significant for the future of our children? Numerous leading organisations in the world are currently investing in initiatives that promote STEM education. The answers to the problems that plague the world-mind today, be it climate change, housing the exponentially increasing population, finding renewable and sustainable sources of energy, or making day to day investments lucrative, lie with innovations that come from the STEM fields. In fact, demand for individuals who are technologically savvy and who can make sense of the massive amount of data that the leading companies produce is increasing exponentially. The U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics estimates creation of more than 9 million jobs in the fields of STEM by 2022. Over the past few years, the STEM industry has proven to be stable and adaptable to the ever-changing societal needs; this trend is only going to continue and grow in the foreseeable future.

STEM – India’s Future

The future of India and the world will be determined and steered by STEM – by young women and men from across the globe. Consequently, it is necessary to cultivate in young minds the interest to pursue STEM education through challenging and stimulating activities. For example, Robotics, one of the leading discipline in the STEM fields, offer engaging ways to bring STEM fields to life in the education space; it accelerates learning processes through facilitating the application of theories that students learn in schools. It also offers ways for students to work through problems visually, and experiment the concepts they come across in a tangible manner. Moreover, Robotics offer the best experience to students to engage actively in STEM education; the activity-based modules stimulate interest and entertain and encourage the students. STEM paves the way for future and Robotics enables the way for STEM.
